Safe Exchange Zones
SwipAlot is built on safe, local, face-to-face deals. Where and how you meet is the difference between a great trade and a bad day. Here is how to do it right – every time.
Where to meet
- Police & sheriff safe-exchange zones (best option). Many Florida law-enforcement agencies set aside designated, camera-monitored spots in their own parking lots – often well lit and available around the clock, some right inside the lobby. Search “[your county] sheriff safe exchange zone” or call the non-emergency line and ask.
- Busy retail parking lots. Big-box stores like Walmart and Target, grocery stores, and bank lobbies have dozens of cameras, steady foot traffic, and good lighting.
- Indoor public spots like a mall food court or a coffee shop work well for smaller items.
- Avoid your home, the other person’s home, empty lots, storage units, and anywhere secluded – especially after dark.
When to meet
- Daylight hours whenever you can. If it has to be evening, pick somewhere bright and busy.
- Choose a time when other people are around
Before you leave
- Tell someone where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and when you’ll be back. Share your live location from your phone.
- Bring a friend if you can – two people is always safer than one.
- Charge your phone.
- Bring enough cash for the agreed price – and not a dollar more. Don’t flash a full wallet.
- Bring the right vehicle and help for what you’re hauling: a truck for furniture, straps and blankets for anything fragile, a second set of hands for heavy items.
At the meet
- Inspect before you pay. Test electronics (bring a charger or batteries), check serial numbers, count the parts, and make sure it matches the ad.
- Keep it to the transaction – you don’t need to share your home address, your workplace, or anything else.
- Trust your gut. If anything feels off, walk away. No deal is worth your safety.
Paying safely
- Cash is simplest for local deals – count it together before anyone leaves.
- Watch for the classic scams: overpayment (“I’ll send extra, just refund me the difference”), fake or bounced checks, “pay me and I’ll ship it,” and anyone pushing you toward gift cards, wire transfers, or off-platform apps.
- For big-ticket items like vehicles, meet at a bank during business hours and use a cashier’s check verified in person.
Selling? Same rules apply
- Meet buyers at the same safe, public spots.
- Let the buyer inspect the item, but keep it until the payment is in your hand and confirmed.
- For anything high-value, a police safe-exchange zone is your best friend.
